Early last year, John Galliano went on an unfortunate drunken, anti-Semitic tirade and once news got out, his job at Christian Dior soon came to a close. It took a little while, and plenty of rumors, but eventually it was announced that Raf Simons would be taking the reigns over at Christian Dior as Galliano's replacement for Dior Haute Couture.
When the lights dimmed and the show started in Paris, it was Raf Simons' creations that made their way down the runway for Dior Haute Couture.
Our initial reaction was that with the exclusion of the flower-filled wall, the over-the-top show that we are used to with Galliano was no more.
The silhouettes showed off the female form in an exceptional way; the color palette was perfect for spring and although Raf went for simpler designs, the embroidery and beading solidified the couture status.

Personified and dressed in their most exquisite finery, these flower-women, each bearing the name of a 1950′s ball gown, are preparing themselves for one of those extraordinary evenings.
” The petals of these Dior roses are delicate fabrics with all the softness of satin while the stones with which they are set are the glorious embroideries embellishing them. I wanted to pay the greatest attention to the details on the linings which reveal an ultra-refined underside and hidden stones. The haute couture show featured revisions of all the brand's iconic looks. The designer wanted to pay tribute to the aristocrat Marie Gruau de la Chesnaie, taking inspiration from René Gruau illustrations of the evolution of fashion over the past few decades.
The color palette includes pastels, on organza, silk and tulle materials in this dreamlike collection. But the dominant color is the iconic Dior red, bringing back a ladylike look. The volumes are magnificent, as are the multi-layered skirts, elaborate cuts that highlight the shoulders and waist, and delicate springtime designs.
To add a final touch of glamor, John Galliano has added some amazing feather and net details in black raffia. This season's Galliano woman is ultra feminine, crowned with a halo of mystery...
